Making history has become second nature for the Tigers in recent seasons – even at the NBA level. Aſter becoming only the second program in college basketball to produce back-to-back NBA Rookies of the Year in 2009 and 2010, Memphis became a part of NBA history again in 2011.
On May 22, 2011, former Memphis standout Derrick Rose became the youngest player in NBA history to be named the league's Most Valuable Player at 22-years-old. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 boards in helping lead the Chicago Bulls to an NBA-best 62-20 record and the Eastern Conference No. 1 seed for the playoffs. The Bulls advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals, before falling to the Miami Heat.
