The first time a sports team accomplishes special, it is long remembered for generations to come. That is the case with the 1972-73 Tigers. Ranked most of the season, the Tigers — led by the legendary trio of Larry Finch, Larry Kenon and Ronnie Robinson — caught fire in the NCAA Tournament and took the city of Memphis on a ride to the NCAA national title game that fans still talk fondly of today. Memphis lost to the Bill Walton-led UCLA Bruins in the title game, but the setback never took away from the magic of the 1972-73 season.
