Bar thelow adds that there is often the case of people in relative privilege blaming those in pover ty. "I can't think of a single case study in Coco Solo that can't be traced back to some kind of structural system," she says. Dayton-Johnson points out that the faculty at MIIS is uniquely qualified to discuss such com- plex international issues. A new community out- reach lecture series features talks by "all-star scholars," including a member of the team who won the recent Nobel Prize in physics. "I feel very inspired and hopeful," Dayton- Johnson says. "Our students are very idealistic and also very pragmatic. They want a meaning- ful job and they want to make things work bet- ter and to make a difference." The MIIS Spring Speaker Series on global issues is open to the public.
