Michael Feinstein Celebrates Frank Sinatra at Sunset Center Gala B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D I f he were alive today, Frank Sinatra would be one year older than the city of Carmel-by- the-Sea. So perhaps it's fitting that Sunset Center has chosen the celebrated crooner Michael Feinstein to perform a "Sinatra Centennial Celebration" at its fourth annual gala fundraiser. Renowned as "The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook," Feinstein per- forms more than 200 shows a year at venues such as the White House, Sydney Opera House, Buckingham Palace, the Hollywood Bowl and the Monterey Jazz Festival. The artist has dedicated his career to preserving and further- ing the unique art form that is the American popular song. Held May 14, the Gala's goal is to raise funds for Sunset's arts and education programs. "We've raised more than $150,000 each year," says Sunset's Executive Director Christine Sandin. "This event has sold out every year." The 8pm performance is preceded by "Sunset at the Piano Bar," a glamorous pre-show affair that transports attendees to a 1950s-era piano lounge. Admission includes a red-carpet arrival, VIP seating at the gala show, champagne and cocktails, a five-course gourmet dinner and a meet-and-greet with Michael Feinstein. "It's truly a gala," Sandin says. "We go all out." For more information or for tickets, visit www.sunsetcenter.org or call 831/620-2048.
