Essences of Life Harnesses the Healing Proper ties of Cannabis B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D W ith laws that govern cannabis use loos- ening, the medical community is becoming increasingly aware of the medicinal qual- ities of the plant's various components. Carmel's Rebecca Barrymore is way ahead of them. "I've been studying the healing qualities of plants and flowers since I was a little girl," she says. "People have begun to realize that the drugs used by modern medicine are founded on plant-based healing." The primary components of cannabis used are the familiar THC and CBD, a compound that's getting more and more attention for its healing potential. Cannabis is just one of the botanical essences thought to have healing proper ties that Barrymore uses in her Essences of Life aro- matherapy products. Another is the rare Ravensara from Madagascar. "It has cellular regeneration properties," she says. There are six products in the line: Canna Bliss aromatherapy spray; Owie Wowie essential skin repair oil and salve; Peace, Love and Flowers roll- on lotion and spray atomizer; and Pink Grapefruit lip gloss. They are available to those with a medical marijuana referral card at Monterey Bay Alternative Medicine in Del Rey Oaks and at the Higher Level Collective in Carmel. Barrymore stresses that her products are strictly for healing. "None of my products get people high," she avers. SHORTCUTS HEALTH Rebecca Barrymore took an interest in the healing attributes of plants and flowers and created a line of products using non-mood altering components of cannabis. 74 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • S P R I N G / S U M M E R 2 0 1 6 Photo: Kelli Uldall
