JUNIOR CODY MCCOY RETURNS TO THE MIDFIELD AFTER STARTING 26 GAMES IN 2009. Leading the returnees at the midfield position will be junior Cody McCoy, a defensive midfielder who has started 26 games in two years in the center of the park for the Tigers. Also returning will be Memphis soccer’s “Mr. Versatile”, Andreas Guentner. The sophomore from Regensburg, Germany, quickly proved his utility in 2009 by being a force in the back four and the center of the park. Guentner, a All-C-USA third team selection, as well as a C-USA All-Freshman pick, had two goals and one assist last season. Hugo Mondragon also returns to the fray. The outside midfielder missed the start of the season after suffering an injury in the preseason, but quickly got involved when he returned, finishing with two goals in seven starts. In addition to being attacking forces at forward, Parker Duncan and Austin Gross also possess the ability to contribute as midfielders. Adding to the arsenal at midfield in 2010 will be freshmen Liam Collins, a native of Skibbereen, Ireland, and Jamal Keene, an Atlanta, Ga., product. Eric Trujillo, known as “Rudy” to his teammates, will also provide depth at midfield as a senior who has been with the team for four seasons after making the team via walk-on tryout in 2006. Newcomers Gordy Gurson, Dennis Kennetz, Jr., and redshirt freshman Adam Thornton will also provide depth at midfielder. 2010 Memphis Men’s Soccer Experience 17 MIDFIELDERS HUGO MONDRAGON
