Self-Guided Trails Whether you are interested in bush tucker, Aboriginal heritage sites or want to follow in the footsteps of the canine legend Red Dog, there are several trails to wander, giving you a deeper insight into the Pilbara. Roaming with Red Dog Trail Follow the Red Dog signposted trail around town to see get a feel for the place where Red Dog spent a lot of his time and see if you can complete the trail's online quest. The Roaming with Red Dog trail is a grade 2 self-drive and walking trail which takes you to some of Red Dog's favourite spots around town. At each point of interest full colour informational signage will help you to discover Dampier's story and that of its most famous resident. The trail is 10km long, and starts at the Red Dog Memorial Statue at the entrance to the town. For further information contact the Karratha Visitor Centre. Yaburara Heritage Trail This trail is an insightful self-guided walking discovery of the traditional inhabitants of the area, the Yaburara Aboriginal People. The trail traces their culture and lifestyle, the impact of white settlement since the 1860s and the spectacular effects of the resources boom from the early 1960s. Some examples of Aboriginal rock art can be seen along the trails, and there are also good views across the town and Nichol Bay from the lookout points. Information signage along the trail offers insight on the important Aboriginal heritage sites along the trail as well as local flora and fauna. Pick up a trail map at Karratha Visitor Centre. Ngurin Bush Tucker Trail On this trail, discover bush tucker and medicines through the interpretive signage. The Ngurin Bush Tucker Trail is a grade 2, 2km walking trail which starts at Jubilee Park in Roebourne. Follow the trail and discover bush tucker, bush medicines and artefacts. The Ngurin (Harding River) and the surrounding vegetation hold great significance to the Ngarluma people, the traditional owners of this land.
