The 350 million year old orange and black striped sandstone domes rise 300 metres out of the plain. Cable Beach is 22km long, and is named after the telegraph cable laid between Broome and Java in 1889. Derby is home to the highest tides in Australia, with a variance of up to 11.8 metres flowing in and out every 6 hours. Sun Pictures in Broome is the oldest operating outdoor cinema in the world.
