7 DAYS IN THE WEST KIMBERLEY Day One Arrive into Broome, the southern gateway to the Kimberley, set between a vast red desert and an azure blue sea. Why not time your visit with a special event? Check dates for beach polo, Shinju Matsuri Festival, horse racing, or the breathtaking natural phenomenon known as Staircase to the Moon. Spend the day visiting places of interest - stroll on the world famous 22 kilometre white sand of Cable Beach or relax on Town Beach on the Roebuck Bay side of the Broome Peninsula. While there, visit the museum, maintained by the Broome Historical Society. For bird lovers, venture out to the Broome Bird Observatory on the shores of Roebuck Bay. This area is regarded as one of the best locations in Australia to view some of the 300 species of migratory wader birds. Tonight enjoy the atmosphere of Broome at one of the many alfresco restaurants. Day Two Join a kayak adventure along Cable Beach, try your hand at fishing or simply laze by the pool and soak up some sunshine. Tonight watch the stars under the stars at the world's oldest operating outdoor picture garden. As an alternative take a 222 kilometre drive to Derby, the oldest settled town in the Kimberley and home to the highest tidal variations in Australia. While there visit the Mowanjum Art and Cultural Centre, and the Boab Prison Tree. Day Three Take a scenic flight over the pristine coastline and see the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago, home to the world famous Horizontal Waterfalls. Alternatively spend a day out on the water on one of the many fishing charters. Tonight join a stargazing tour under a blanket of a million stars. Day Four Choose from one of the many full day tours on offer. Take a four-wheel drive tour to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek. Experience a unique Aboriginal cultural experience up the Dampier Peninsula to Cape Leveque or visit the oldest working pearl farm in Australia. Visit a coastal eco retreat south of Broome. Go snorkelling, fishing, whale watching or simply relax and enjoy the wide open stretches of white sandy beaches. Day Five Discover the real Broome; join a tour visiting the town's most interesting icons. Learn about the hard-hat divers and their wooden pearling luggers and taste pearl meat from the Pinctada Maxima Oyster. Head out to the Broome Golf Course for 18 holes and the finest view in Broome, or spoil yourself shopping in Broome's historic Chinatown – home to South Sea Pearl showrooms. Get pampered at one of Broome's luxurious day spas. If you're here on a weekend, visit the famous Courthouse Markets. Day Six Visit an operating pearl farm north of Broome either by self drive, fixed-wing, helicopter or coach. You may like to stay put in Broome and take a self-guided 'Jetty to Jetty' Heritage Walk. Explore the Japanese Cemetery, or enjoy a nice cold beer at a unique micro brewery. Join a camel train for a trek along Cable Beach at sunset. Day Seven Head out to the wilderness park to check out the massive rogue crocodiles, or board a hovercraft flight to discover the many wonders of Roebuck Bay.
