7 DAYS IN THE East KIMBERLEY Day One Arrive into Kununurra, the eastern gateway to the Kimberley. Familiarise yourself with the town by visiting places of interest such as Celebrity Tree Park, Mirima National Park, (also known as Hidden Valley) and the Historical Society Museum. Visit Lily Creek Lagoon, Diversion Dam and Ivanhoe Crossing. View a sunset from Kelly's Knob lookout to take in the excellent view of the Ord Valley, Lake Kununurra and the Sleeping Buddha. Enjoy a movie at the outdoor Picture Gardens. Day Two Take a thrilling day cruise on the Ord River between Lake Argyle and Kununurra. See a plethora of native flora and fauna. In the afternoon view the massive inland sea of Lake Argyle from a scenic lookout. Visit the Durack Homestead before cruising Lake Argyle - Australia's largest fresh water lake. The lake is a unique ecosystem and home to an amazing array of wildlife including freshwater crocodiles, 26 species of native fish, and 270 bird species which at times can number in the tens of thousands. Day Three Take to the air today on a scenic flight to the World Heritage Listed Purnululu National Park - Bungle Bungle Range. This national park is 45,000 hectares in area. National park status was granted in 1987 and it was declared a World Heritage site in 2003. Spend the day exploring this amazing park with a local guide. A return scenic flight can take you over one of the largest operating diamond mines in the world - the Argyle Diamond Mine. Alternatively, stay overnight at one of the accommodated safari camps in the national park. Day Four Join a four-wheel drive tour to one of the nearby vast outback properties. Hike through spectacular gorge country and swim in waterholes, join a boat cruise or just take in the grand landscape. Experience a scenic flight over the Mitchell Plateau, stay at a coastal camp where you can fish, explore Aboriginal rock art galleries, or just relax by the pool and take in the spectacular view. Accommodation is available in some truly unique settings. Day Five Take a fishing charter on the Lower Ord, the section of the Ord River below the Kununurra Diversion Dam flowing out to the Cambridge Gulf. The area has an abundance of native wildlife that can be easily spotted, including saltwater crocodiles and a huge variety of birdlife. It is the perfect location to fish for the elusive barramundi. Day Six Take a day trip to Wyndham, a one hour drive from Kununurra. The town of Wyndham is recognised geographically as the Top Town of the West. Wyndham has a diverse history - a small frontier town that typifies the true character of the Kimberley region. Visit places of interest - Five Rivers Lookout / Bastion Ranges, Three Mile Valley Walking Trail, Wyndham Port and the Aboriginal Dreamtime Statues. Day Seven Spend the morning exploring Kununurra's many contemporary and Aboriginal art and craft galleries. Find out about the unique Zebra Rock, as well as the local Argyle diamonds and Sandalwood products and take home your own piece of Kununurra. Tour around the Ord Irrigation Area and discover the range of produce grown in this fertile land that even produces its own rum. Zebedee Springs. Lake A rgyle.
