The Tigers returned to the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight seasons in the spring of 1995 with Joye Lee-McNelis in her fourth year at the helm of the Tiger program. The Tigers opened the season with a loss at No. 1 Tennessee, but bounced back to win 10-straight to get back on track. Memphis also played a game at The Pyramid in downtown Memphis for just the second time in school history, defeating DePaul 94-93 to avenge a 79-65 loss to No. 1 Tennessee in the new building downtown the previous season. Memphis fell to host Marquette in the Great Midwest tournament, but made it into the NCAA field, which had expanded to 64 teams the previous year. Memphis went up the road to Nashville and defeated No. 21 Southern Cal in the opening round, 74-72, then fell at No. 9 Vanderbilt, 95-68. Keeta Matthews picked up her third All-Great Midwest first team honor, while freshman LaTonya Johnson was named to the Great Midwest All- Newcomer team. Johnson and Kitty Allen were both named to the All-Tournament team.
