QR Codes for Easy-Access Promotions Toyota subsidiary Denso Wave in Japan invented the Quick Response Code in 1994 to track vehicles during the manufacturing process. Since then, the technology shifted gears as a social media and marketing tool and, in recent years, the QR Code's popu- larity has grown considerably thanks to the increasing ubiquity of smartphones. A busi- ness can attach a QR Code, which is linked to a webpage, video or other application, to a packaging label or an advertisement; by scan- ning the code via a free app on their phone, consumers can find themselves looking at a coupon, video, recipe, listing of potential sides for a specific dish or a number of other possibilities.
