The com- pany raised the money by selling specially marked bags of coffee last fall. This is in addition to the more than 300,000 cups of Community coffee given to evacuees and first responders. The gift helps fund the work of the Baton Rouge and Lafayette corps who donated 195,979 meals, 222,367 drinks, 120,137 snacks, 20,741 comfort kits, 8,540 cleanup kits, 20,894 food boxes, and provided 24,342 hours of employee and volunteer service. But many families are still hurting from the f looding, says Major Mel James, Lafayette Corps. More Companies Making a Difference Barry Callebaut and Prova Help Madagascar Farmers Barry Callebaut and Prova, a manufac- turer of vanilla extracts and f lavors, have launched a project in Madagascar that aims to diversify and stabilize revenues of vanilla farmers through the introduction of cocoa farming. The project also plans to increase levels of vanilla curing at the farm level and support the adoption of good agri- cultural practices. IDH, the Sustainable Trade Initiative, will provide professional consulting services and financing for the project, which will run over the next five years, with the first cocoa product results expected after three years.
