PURCHASES O OLIVE OIL Landec Corp. has acquired O Olive Oil for $2.5 million in cash, plus an opportunity for the seller to earn an additional $7.5 million over the next three years. Founded in 1995 in Petaluma, Calif., O Olive Oil is a producer of California specialty olive oils and wine vinegars. SUPERVALU GAINS SPECIALTY FOODS OPPORTUNITY THROUGH UNIFIED GROCERS ACQUISITION Supervalu Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Unified Grocers in a transaction valued at $375 million. The acquisi- tion will add a West Coast-focused wholesale grocery and specialty distributor to Supervalu's exist- ing distribution network, bring- ing together two complementa- ry organizations with combined 2016 sales of approximately $16 billion. Supervalu also plans to expand Unified's Market Centre division, a growing business pro- viding specialty and ethnic prod- ucts to independent customers. International Subscription Box Company Acquires Competitor Specialty food subscription service Try the World has acquired Hamptons Lane, a similar subscription service. Through its acquisition, Try the World saw an opportunity to consoli- date the market as Hamptons Lane was the only competitor focusing on global foods. Try the World's subscription boxes range from $19 to $39 a month, and contain items like olive- lemon couscous sauce from Morocco, and coconut crisps from Thailand. Try the World is also expanding through new distribu- tion channels, such as Walmart and Jet.com. NEW AGE PURCHASES TWO SPECIALTY DRINKS COMPANIES New Age Beverages Corp. will acquire the assets of Marley Beverage Co., including its brands of ready-to-drink coffee, and relaxation drinks and teas. The deal will expand New Age's footprint in the organic, all-natural, preservative-free, high fructose corn syrup-free, and non-GMO segments. New Age Beverages has also acquired Maverick Brands, producer of Coco-Libre coconut water, giving New Age access to the coconut water market. Gallo Buys Premium Vineyard E&J Gallo Winery has bought Stagecoach Vineyard for an undis- closed price. Stagecoach, which is one of the most noted vineyards in the Napa Valley, had previously sold wine grapes to the Modesto- based winery. Amira Nature Foods Acquires Rice Brands Amira Nature Foods has acquired a portfolio of packaged specialty rice brands from Germany-based Euro Basmati GmbH. The brands included in the deal are Al Amir, Al Hakim, Bano, Dalia, Hanna, and Shah Pari.
